If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, look no farther than La Casita on Anderson Road. I've been eating here for years and they are consistantly amazing. The breakfast menu is top notch with all of the basic offerings such as huevos rancheros, migas, chichirones and chorizo and eggs. The house specialty breakfast offering, Huevos Divorciados, is a scrumptious offering of two eggs, one in red sauce and the other in green sauce with beans, potatoes, two flour or corn tortillas, and your choice of carne guisada, chichirones, or steak. It is simply amazing. They have three different lunch specials everyday of the work week. The crispy taco plate is mouth-watering with three big tacos filled with picodillo, tomato, lettuce, and cheese and served with beans and rice. There are about ten different enchilada plates and I have yet to try one I didn't like. Traditional soups are also on the menu. The caldo de rez is top notch served with generous amounts of tender beef, squash, potatos, corn on the cob, and a side of cilantro, onion, and lime. I recommend the fresh menudo on Sunday mornings to cure that hangover. The menudo is spot on to my abuela's from my childhood. Not too greasy and lots of lean honeycomb tripe. The homemade salsas are made fresh daily. The red salsa fresca is a perfect balance of flavor and spice. I wish I had the recipe for the green sauce because it is out of this world and has no equal anywhere else. For desert they have the best homemade flan in Austin and you get a portion large enough for two people to share. I really can't recommend La Casita enough. It has become a staple of my life and I hope you give it a try.
